About CompSci.ca
Computer Science Canada is a community of programmers and computer science students who come together to share knowledge, tips, help and their enthusiasm of all things computer science, programming and technology.

In addition to the forums, we also run the DWITE programming contest, the popular CompSci.ca/blog blog and offer hosting to projects related to cs, open source, and education. For personal projects, consider windows web hosting options.

mirhagk: Yeah same. We didn't even use the C++ standard library, we used a custom made one called lvp that type defined booleans.

Amarylis: my school recently got visual C++, we only had VB 6 until last year

mirhagk: Apparently with Visual studio express you need to get a special license for schools since each user on a computer needs a seperate license. But my teacher tried for weeks to get one, and they were obviously just avoiding getting back to him so that he would just ignore the licensing rules and use a single license for each machine so they didn't have to charge him lol.

hamid14: we have visual studio 2008 at our school. you cant beat that

ProgrammingFun: Dreamspark added a fee this year :(

Amarylis: Even the free stuff is hard to get approved

Tony: I thought DreamSpark was free~cheap for students~schools...

ProgrammingFun: As a related note, it's also incredibly hard to get them to buy anything. I envy you schools with Dreamspark.

Tony: it's actually incredibly hard to sell software to schools for a variety of reasons (budgets, procurement rules, etc.)

hamid14: mine said something similar. I can easily make software for schools that would cost them less in java, but it doesnt interest me a lot

Beastinonyou: In the turing submissions, second page, here: link . It was a simple idea for my final project, and it worked out well for me. I finished with a 96 if I remember correctly. Top mark out of all previous years

z_cross_fire: See how much can you score: link
