Does anyone know if it is the tiniest bit possible to gather data from, a USB device in Turing, (in my case the Arduino Diecimila - http://www.arduino.cc/). I was hoping I could design software, for a device that I'm making. Should I just go to a better language.

I don't know alot about the Arduino but I seem to recall that you can treat it as a serial device and communicate with it that way. But hell, I don't even know if Turing can do serial (it does parallel, I know that).

If you have an Arduino that's freaking awesome and I think you should take this opportunity to learn a cool language to play with it.

From my 3 second glance, it looks like you could do something similar to what they do for flash with turing.

It looks like they have a middle man program(proxy), that allows a flash program(or perhaps turing) to connect over sockets(networking) to another program, that does the actual hardware interfacing.

But I'd recommend teaching yourself a more powerful language than turing, as it will definitely limit your ability to do things.

well I really dont know if Turing can do such things
however I was just going though the liked site
and http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
la duh~!
they have language for it WITH tuts
what more do you need?

EDIT my bad didnt see mazer already had the link Embarassed

Thanks! I've actually learning serial Input on the Arduino write now, I think I'm actually going to use Python. It looks like a great language to me. The Arduino is so much fun, its physical programming.

Why don't you just learn C and use the Arudino programming software available for free on thier website?

Very easy to use and learn.

I just an Ardunio myself a month ago or so, haven't had much time to program anything, considering I only have a few crappy LED's to play around with for the time being, but it's not too difficult to learn Smile

Haha, I live like down the road from a The Source. So I just pop down there every one and a while, and pick up some parts. Also, if you need parts you can get almost anything for free off the internet, electrical components become obsolete so quickly, most companies give out free samples, in hopes that you'll mass produce with them, theres a great list of potential companies here: http://www.ladyada.net/wiki/findingparts/sampling. I'm actually waiting on some single color LCD displays I got for free. I have gotten encloses, motors, solar panels, resistors, IC's (TONS), and some really awesome infrared emitters/receivers (super fun with Arduino).

I suggest buying online from Digikey. The prices are much, much better and the selection is much, much greater. (Tip: Their printed catalogue is better than their online search...they usually send one out with their first order)
Just buy enough stuff (I think it's $35 CAD) and they'll remove handling cost. Shipping's pretty cheap, too, and it's damned fast. (In all of my orders, if I placed the order by 8 PM, I've gotten it by noon the next day without paying a premium)

Every time you buy electronic components from The Source, a kitten has a tragic Tesla coil accident.

Ya, I know... I really should buy from DigiKey, but... I don't like to wait >.<. I even ordered a catalog from them, I'm looking through it as I type this (it's like four phone books!) , I think it's about time I get a big order of parts, and I don't want to harm any kittens!

A bit off topic, but does anyone know how I would control an LCD 7 segment display (http://www.purdyelectronics.com/pdf/fe1901.pdf)without using up like everyone of my pins! There must be an easier way!
