|
|
I heard from a friend that u can make games, and if you save it on a DVD rom you will be able to play it on PS2 . If anybody knows if this is true, please tell me and if so, does anybody know how to set the controlls to work with the controllers. |

Your friend seems to be a bit of a liar. To develop games for the PS2 (forget about which language you need), you must have the SDK (software development kit), which costs several thousands of dollars.
Unless you are running Linux on the PS2 in question, in which case you could theoretically make games using Turing but it'd still be a bad idea. |

Besides... what turing games would you want to play on the ps2 anyways???
(Come to think of it... Forces and Evasive Maneuvers would be pretty cool...) |

I can't see Forces with a PS2 controller... perhaps with thumbsticks, but it's still kind of odd...
Anyways - the PS2 needs to be running Linux, then you could load up your own games, same as on any Linux desktop. Though I just don't see Turing -> Wine -> Linux -> PS2 controllers. |

As I understand it (and don't get me wrong; I don't) the Linux kit comes with a USB keyboard, right? |

most probably
though what's the point of playing on a PS2, if you're going to hook up a keyboard anyways? |

What's the point of playing on a PS2, if you can hook up a controller to a PC anyways?
Same reason. |

LoL... Someone should have just explained to the thread owner that turing is not a powerful language, that it simply cannot make 3D games 10% as good as any you can buy off the shelf for PS2, that it would be a gruelling, highly UGLY process to attempt to make a very crappy game for PS2 (since that is all turing is capable of), that the only type of person who might embark on this endeavor would probably be the kind of person who only would play the game for ten minutes just to see if it worked... So I think that is an explainative enough of an answer for the average joe. The only person who would attempt this is truly a tech-freak with too much time on his hands... Like way too much time since there are millions of better things one could do with their time... |

Graphics aren't everything (Even though next-gen promotions would preach otherwise...)
I've made quasi 3-D games that are 150% better than some of the things you'll get off the shelf for PS2 (I'm referring to the crappy games, but the point stands.)
Might I present evidence A: Geometry Wars.
This game, one of the first released for X-Box 360, could be quite easily programmed in Turing. |

Do you want to make a bet? Try to program the game in turing and if it works let me know, but don't forget that it has to run on a 400mhz processor like the one in xbox - (this is why it is not possible) |

IIRC, the CPU in the XBox was at 800MHz. |

maybe he means X box, not X box 360, though maybe they use the same prosessor |

Close enough.

They definately don't use the same CPU.
XBox wrote: CPU: Micro PGA2 733 MHz Intel Mobile Celeron/Pentium III hybrid
XBox 360 wrote: Three symmetrical cores, each one SMT-capable and clocked at 3.2 GHz
Anyone think I could squeeze in a few more quotes there? |
