Post subject:  Best of Turing, Jan 2009-Feb 2010

Ok, So after COUNTLESS hours (So long I thought of making a program to make this faster... Lol), I have gone through about 200+ programs,tested75+ of them, and then reviewed about 30 of them, If you program isnt here, Then It didnt make it to the review Stage. Sorry. I have reviewed many Programs and I have a list of the top 5 programs. Also I only went to review programs from 2009 till present time, I dont have enouhgt time to do till 2005 lol. Please no critisism thats too harsh, I did this because I felt like it would be a good idea.

Wow, I'm honoured I made it to the list, thank you. I have finished working on the project (even though I had many unpublished features), I have decided to revive it in Python. I'll post when done any significant amount. And I'll comment more. I rather enjoyed making such a project.

I was actually shocked I didn't see Forces up on there, the game created by Windsurfer.

Forces ? Maybe I didnt get to it... :/ I Had literally went on ever post in submissions and downloaded lol. After 5 pages I was getting into 2008 and stuff from 2005 so I said "screw it, I'm just reviewing 2009-present date" lol

I searched forces but thats from 2006, hence I didnt review it. Wink

If you haven't played it, please do. It will be the most fun you will ever have playing a Turing made game. Although he seemed to disappear after the game's code was released.

Thanks, I did work hard on it. It was especially a challenge getting complex graphics from just using Turing's built-in commands. Totally worth it though, put Turing's built-in GUI to shame.

That's gratifying to see my work listed as "learn from this guy" up there. Thanks!

I'm encouraged to actually write some physics programming tutorials (I have the code for the first one finished, but haven't sat down to actually write the tutorial yet). Quick survey: how many people would be interested enough in a physics-programming tutorial to warrant me writing 5+ pages of text for it?

I'd like some links/names on there too, can't tell if the pacman@#4 is mine or someone else's. The comments describe mine well. I'd be surprised if that WAS mine though, I made that in grade 10 before I knew much at all, most of that stuff I was learning as I went. Never finished it and parts don't work.

Funnily enough, 12.6 thousand lines of code isn't grounds for "good", it's grounds for "bad". You can do an awful lot in 12.6k lines, far more than a Millionaire game.

Wow!...so amazing to see my project on Truing Reviews =P. I am glad to see it got such high ratings in the areas I worked hardest on ^.^ .

Bad news: I will not be posting the source code for the game just for "copyright" reasons since I intend on taking the game father.

Good news: about the put more time in part, I intend to recode the entire game in C# with much help from 'cavetroll'.

I tried my best to make a story line in the three months I had to make it (it was a school project). The basic storyline I aimed for is: Your king has chosen you to find the Holy Grail and bring it to him lol.

Again, many thanks for enjoying my game as much as I did. =P

Copyright wont stopp people from infringing or copying!!!!!
your reason for not realeasing source is terrible.
release source, just without the story.
THAT SIMPLE, we dont necesarylly want the story, just the math stuff

Author:  DemonWasp [ Thu Mar 04, 2010 12:04 pm ]
Post subject:  RE:Best of Turing, Jan 2009-Feb 2010

Copyright won't stop people copying it, but it will discourage people from copying it and then claiming it as their own (this has serious penalties and is actually enforceable).

Stop bothering people to release their source code. It's their source, they will release it if they want to. I personally would also advocate the advantages of releasing source code (as I am a rabid fan of Firefox, Linux, Apache's httpd, Eclipse and a variety of other open-source applications), but there are also legitimate reasons to keep the source closed. Bashing people who don't want to release their source code, for whatever reason, isn't conducive to getting them to release their code.

Post subject:  RE:Best of Turing, Jan 2009-Feb 2010

I, personally, enjoy the story. Also I believe the only time you need to see the source code is if you are having problems with something, Which that program has. Although it would be better just to ask them for help instead.

Author:  copthesaint [ Thu Mar 04, 2010 4:37 pm ]
Post subject:  RE:Best of Turing, Jan 2009-Feb 2010

Its none of your buisness if they dont want help. Yes there are problem, but Its His/Her Game and if they dont want help thats fine.
also Jdub, Name that makes no sence and cannot be repeated, Please, quit harrasing people for there source code. And there is also such thing as the EDIT button :l
If you came here to harras more people for source code, Leave this thread now :/...

Also I have spoken to my computer teacher about Wind surfer, he says he will see if my school still has him on file, he was in grade 11 in 2006, so he is gone from my school, for sure lol... but hell still check.

edit, it's a (i think) awesome platformer scrolling mario-type game with pretty good graphics and 4 different levels. it is however... made to be educational since it was for an ISU.

:I Another game from january lol, ill check it out.

Also I love how everyone spends such a long time making there programs, I however made all my games in less then a weak Lol. It took me 3 days to make chain linkz 2, and 6 days to make my program that plays multiple music files ithout slowing turings speed. I should spend a couple of months on a program and see what I get Lol... *Im not bragging, since It is hard for me to stay focused on one program lol*

I vote yes as well.

Yes as well. Plus, wasn't this on another topic?

Sold. Physics tutorials will start arriving soon, possibly with a first installment on Monday, though I do have an exam on Tuesday afternoon.

wow, I feel terrible for not reading compsci for so long now that RetroShooter's there. Thanks man, you're one of the 5 people I know/respect/remember on this forum, so it meant a lot to have my game rated.
Can't remember whether i released the latest source, but if anyone still wants it, i'll try and recover my broken drive to upload it; my laptop and harddrive simultaneously went down, causing the loss of all my Turing/c++/c#/python programs about 3 months ago, but i still have faith. I grew to like those simple programs :<

OMG I can't believe my game (Grail Quest) was actually listed in here! Thanks for the review! Smile
A ton of updates have been made to the game since it was posted here, but I never got around to generating a .msi of the new version. Sadly, I have not worked on it in yearrsss, and if I ever return to it I will likely redo it in C++/# or Python.
I will post the source code of the most recent version here next chance I get (if I remember).

Thanks again for the review! Very Happy

Didn't realize I replied to this in 2010... anyways, attached is the source code of the most recent version of the game (and all of the files needed to play it)! Run the source code, not the executable.

P.S. Very sorry about the necropost. Forgot about that...
