I don't see how trig can be applied to most programming. Maybe if it was a program designed to calculate waves like light/sound or something, but aside from that, how can it be applied to general applications?

How about games, for an example? Trig is used to determine how fast an object is moving along the X, Y, and Z axes based on the angle of the object.

not only speed. trig is used so when your changing direction it doesn't just go straight up/down right/left. it turns and makes it more realistic. for instance evasive maneuveurs by mazer a memorable game. if u played the game u would see that his ships would not move just up/down they also would move on different angles.

Memorable? That's it?! Your worship is a little off, but you'll be forgiven.

Evasive Maneuvers is by Coutsos,
but it is by Mazer too,
so mazer = coutsos?? Shocked and all this time I thought coutsos left compsci rofl.

...he did...

Trig is neccessary for any object movement more complex than up/down left/right.

Coutsos helped alot with the programming. Really, most of what I contributed was just the graphics.

argh. teaching myself this is harder than i though. I just got the pythagorean theorm downpat, along with re-learning Soh Cah Toa, and where to use it. It's gonna be a long april.

I know how you feel. I learned trig back in highschool (over 3 years ago), and I'd forgotten everything.

But for some reason, SOH-CAH-TOA always stayed in my head.
So just by remembering that, I created my first ever program using angles (the ever-popular breakout) just a month back.
Since then, I've been using Turings arctand/sind/cosd function is almost all my programs.

Let me know if you need some help figuring out angles for object movement.
