Wow, a quad G5! Because that's never been done before in a commercially available system!
Oh, wait... |

Slick. G5's way too expensive though (for me anyway).
It's strange that they only give the dual dual core only 512mb of ram by default though... |

Well, Apple stays ahead (in terms of "mindshare", I'd put them far ahead of the pack, considering their marketshare) partly by having cool stuff, and partly by knowing how to market it. All of the other upgrades are enough to wow people this time. The next time around they'll up the base RAM and that'll be a point in their favor. In the meantime, people will just buy the extra RAM if they need it. |

I don't know, Apple's got a bit of a history on skimping out on the ram (256 used to be default in most of their line). I just can't imagine anyone buying a four-core G5 and not needing more than 512MB of ram. I guess that anyone buying that computer would probably know enough about computers to upgrade it though.
Not a huge deal though. |

I like to think of it as a blessing, considering the BTO premium they usually charge for RAM. |

Nah, upgrades to the default package never raise the price. Hell, in the case of the top of the line iMac, they shaved $100US off.
But yeah, 512mb of ram isn't bad in any case. I guess there will always be complaints. Plus it has 256mb of vram, which helps. |

Don't forget about Apple's new photo software - http://www.apple.com/aperture/
Is this a Photoshop competitor, or something else? It seems like with recommended specs like that (Dual 2.0GHz G5, 2GB Ram, nVidia geforce 6600+) it has to be something more. Pretty cheap though for professional software ($500). |
