i want to maka sound clip from a portion of a video file i have. The audio is mp3, and the video is XviD
I thought that i might be able to do this with virtualdub.... but i can't see a way. any thoughts?

So you want to rip part of the sound from a video clip?
There's a program called Super Mp3 Recorder Professional which can record all sounds as you would hear them coming from your speakers. You could run it and play the video, then trim the clip to your liking with Audacity. The only problem is Super Mp3 Recorder Professional is not free. There's probably a free alternative out there to it, just gotta look around.

VirtualDumMod can do this easily.
Streams -> Stream List -> Save wav
