Anybody read this? I just finished it (or did I?) and thought it was a great book. But it (an ebook, actually) left me rather concerned. Am I missing something, or does it actually end with them going to a restaurant?
I thought Arthur was supposed to figure out the answer at some point? |

Yes, you are missing something.
It's part of a trilogy, so you've got four more books to go. |

Yeah. Book Two is "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe", Book Three is "Life, the Universe, and Everything", book four "So long and thanks for all the fish" and book 5, "Mostly harmless".
And there's a movie coming out this year. |

I see now, that there was indeed more. But for the record, a trilogy would mean three. I assume you meant that backwards, but it's still funny for me.
EDIT: Reading Hikaru's post, I can no longer understand how your post made any sense at all.
tony: the real treasure would be to know what the question is!
rizzix: so far it's "How many roads must a man walk down" for me, but only because I don't want to give away the real answer (...question?) that was spoiled for me by stumbling upon a certain wikipedia article.
person: I recommend you go find the book and read it. Like all good stories, I gave up on reading it after the first chapter so many years ago. But really, even if you aren't into reading it's a great book. |

Calling it a trilogy was always one of Douglas Adams' many inside jokes. Basically, he never anticipated having more than three books, and even at the time of his premature death, he was in the process of converting a half-finished book he had been writing for another series to the SIXTH part of the hitchhiker trilogy.
To quote Wikipedia,Wikipedia wrote: The books are described as "a trilogy in five parts", after having been described as a trilogy on the release of the third book, and then a "trilogy in four parts" on the release of the fourth book. |

Well don't I feel dumb.
I guess to be accurate it would normally be called a pentology. Thank goodness those Greeks let us borrow their numbers, eh? |

Hey! Don't forget the short story insert as well..."Young Zaphod Plays It Safe".
Personally, I found the latter books to be a bit trite...he lost most of his "this is philosophy because I say so"-ness after the second, but made up for it in his well developed plots.
Makes little difference though, still the most awsome series to pass by this side of the universe. |
