If you're in Canada, and especially for social-related jobs, it's a HUGE asset. And anywhere else you go, knowing as many languages is a Good Thing. Even if the language itself is of little practical value, it says something about you personally, about your learning skills and stuff, if you can claim a working knowledge in two or three or four languages.
At least... this is what my French teacher tells us |

Depends what you do and for whom.
Tech support for the government owned organization would find French very benefiting.
On the other hand, doing QA in private sector doesn't even require you to know proper English..
As for knowing more languages: I need to learn Mandrian just to get service at many places.. damn |

Knowing extra languages can never hurt. You have to take the classes, so you might as well learn something from them. |

This is what I've learnt:
1-3 same thing
4-8 same thing
9 different than 8
I just don't like learning the language. Pretty much all I can say is:
Je m'appelle Gandalf. Bonjour. lol |

If it is useful now it soon will not be. They're going to separate soon anyways, so it won't matter if you can speak french or not. |

They tried that before, remember? Who knows what will happen, but I don't really care because by then I will have learnt all the French which I would have learnt anyways . I guess it would make it simpler making a job if there was no French - but then again, there would probably be something else like Spanish or Chinese or something which would not make things any better. |

Did that make sense to you?
The big advantage to being fluent in French is that it's one of our official languages. Even if Quebec seperated (which I don't think is likely any time soon), it would probably still be an official language. Knowing other languages is a bonus only if you're expecting a majority of clients that speak that specific language (of if you work as an interpreter). |

What I meant was that it might make it simpler to get a job if we didn't have French as an official Language. If that happened though, we would probably have to learn some other language instead. That would not be much better than the current situation.
And, as you said, even if Quebec separated - French would still probably be our second official language. |

le français est une bonne langue, riche avec les formes de verbes interessantes. Tu ne dois pas le saver, mais de temps en temps c'est une avantage. Pour example, quand to veut lire ques-ce-que j'ai juste écrit. |
