AMD's ok on the desktop, but they can't hold a candle to IBM or even Intel when it comes to laptops. |

its about time amd came out with something like that... it might not be as good as centrino but at least there making an effort. I think for desktops AMD is playing it smart, all this time Intel has been working on stuff like making faster P4's, celeron D's, HT, and PCL-E while AMD made the biggest step of all and made 64bit CPU's, so AMD just gets there other ideas like PCL-E and dont they have a 4 core CPU now? anyway AMD may be more expensive but id rather have a 64 bit processor in the next 3 years to come than a 32bit |

actually, sources say that the turion laptops will be superior to the centrinos, and also cost less |

its going to be cheaper because AMD made processors do not have to be clocked up to such an high speed, they are built nicer, so less clock cycle is wasted.. the Pentium M line was introduced to copy AMD's efficiency. i read somewhere that the benchmark of an Pentium M 2.1 Ghz is just as good as an Pentium 4 3.8 Ghz |

the centrino series might be strong, but they are still 32 bit... the 64 bit Turion should be able to overpower the M chips |

64-bit addressing by no means makes a processor more "powerful". It can, in fact make them perform slower.
General architectural improvements could make the Turion faster, but it won't have anything to do with whether the chip is 64-bit or 32-bit.
Also, the issue is not performance. An Athlon 64 in a laptop will vastly outperform a Pentium M based laptop. However, it'll be hotter and you'll have about an hour of battery life. The primary goal when it comes to a laptop processor is not raw power but rather low heat dissipation and long battery life.
In this regard the PowerPC 750 series remains the best general-purpose laptop processor to date. |

they said the turion could last 4 hours, and dissipates about the same amount of heat as the pentium M.. and athlon 64 pcs can last up to 3 hours |
