hi i bought a new computer recently although it isn't really good. in the store they installed my firewall and norton antivirus. now when i turn on my computer all my programs work, execpt when i try to connect to the internet i have to wait for my norton antivirus and my firewall to load completely. this takes about 3 minutes to load and it's really anoying to sit there and wait for 3 minutes until i could go on the internet. is there any way to speed that up without damaging your computer.

uninstall norton!!!!

norton is the worst antivirus it sucks up resources, doesnt clean infected files or do anything for that matter, and auto protect doesnt do much

get another antivirus like AVG Free edition or Nod32(the best but not free) unless ura pirate

and get another firewall, i personally think xp sp2's firewall is sufficient but
but then im not to big on security
there are free firewall programs better than norton...

I second that. My computer came with Norton and wow, was that annoying Rolling Eyes Uninstalling it was one of the first things I did (seeing as the program thought that I would enjoy watching it bitch about everything rather than use the computer)

i think norton antivirus isn't bad and deletes some viruses. you guys might have had an old version of norton, but i don't want to and will not uninstall norton antivirus. i think though that there is a way to fix that problem without uninstalling my whole norton antivirus plus i paid $60 for that! please tell me a way of fixing it without uninstalling it.

that still doesn't work my computer still loads very slowly. maybe it's not even the norton antivirus fault maybe it's because of something else.

Neah, I had the latest. It came with the computer I bought in september.

But that's not the point. You should look around the settings and see if there's anything you can tweak. Maybe norton scans something at load and hogs the system. I mean 3 minutes is just redicilous.

k maybe norton antivirus does suck but i said i don't want to install it. and anyways i saw many computers have norton antivirus that are much worse computers than mine but they seem to load faster. even my ancienct computer seems to load now at the same speed. that is nuts because this is my new computer.
as well i highly doubt that is loads so slow because of my norton antivirus

its not norton's problem.. im running norton internet security and my comp boots in less than 30s, if i were u, i'd reformat, it'll help alot, but get partition magic first so u wont lose ur files o and it also could be some spyware/messed up registry problems

if you don't want to format (although it's always good), you can check your msconfig and unckeck all the programs you don't need at boot time

I dont think his problem is booting or loading programs upon boot up because he says when he connects to the internet he has to wait several minutes. Perhaps its a combination of your internet connection and your anti-virus. Maybe its doing some automatic update and is downloading update files and because your connection is slow you have to wait a long time.

but really, if u want to keep norton and ur whole computer in OEM form, you're gonna have either
1)check for spyware
2)check for a virus using an online virus scanner
3)get rid of certain services and startup programs in msconfig

if anyone can add to this list...

and if worse comes to worse just do what M$ Does (no dont try to take over the world Smile ) Sue somebody Smile
