Funnily enough, Neo was only half wrong.

Despite Diwali being a Hindu holiday (I guess you could say it's the equivalent of Christmas...sorta), today is actually Eid as well as the Hindu new year. (Eid is the Muslim holiday that occurs at the end of Ramzaan [Ramadan], which is their extended period of fast and prayer.

This be really cool eh, two hols on the same day!
