It looks like they're going for something like Turing, what with the "Great for learning and teaching programming" bit.
but it's only beta, and it's free, maybe it's good, can't say yet. waiting for my subscription Smile

thanks for the link wtd. Out of curiosity, how'd you hear about this?

Hey this looks pretty cool. Like Cervantes said, it looks like they're trying to make it somewhat of a learning language, like Turing. But unlike Turing, it's free! And unlike Turing, people in other parts of the world have actually heard of BASIC programming.

From what I've seen on the site, it looks pretty cool. At least the GUI doesn't look like Windows 3.1.

Waiting for my copy too. Smile

Uh oh, I spotted goto lines in the code in the screenshots. That's not good... Confused
the customizable GUI sounds intriguing Smile

lol. What would a BASIC language be without 'Go To' lines. Though for a learning language, that could develop bad programming habits.

And yeah, the GUI editor looks pretty cool.

Got the email and signed up. Downloading now. Very Happy
the community on their forums seems very friendly.
The only thing I'm worried about is people are saying that JustBasic is too powerful: if it is too powerful, there would be no reason to purchase LibertyBasic. Well, personally I hope they keep JustBasic pretty powerful, but I guess they should do what they must to make money.

Hi,

Just BASIC benefits from attaching itself to an already huge Liberty BASIC community, so it doesn't have to start from scratch. We have some great people. Smile

Don't be concerned. I don't think we're going to strip anything else out.

Hmm... will learning it help me learn VB and other languages with the word "Basic" in it?

Not so much Visual Basic, but most others, yes. As many BASIC languages have very similar syntax. VB is more object oriented though, so it's a different type of programming all together.

Visual Basic no longer is really a BASIC. It's a thin syntactic shell over C#.

I've been told by some of my users that Liberty BASIC was very helpful as a primer for learning other languages including VB. Just BASIC shares most of the qualities of Liberty BASIC, and will doubtless also prove to be a good starter language.
