it's called your computer with a web server app and php instaled Razz

i am not kidding, if u got an ok webconection and an ok computer you could uses it as your host. the first versons of compsci.ca (called SWAT then) where hosted off a comp in my basement.

also no adds and only limists are the psical ones on your system and conection.

we whould try, and yes it will work throw a fire wall. u just got to reconfiger the fire wall to alow port 80 traick or w/e port u have your web server set to.

for help on seting it all up i whould recomend posting in php or html.

here are some usfull linkes you will need:

http://www.mysql.com - to get mysql server for a mysql db if u whont that

http://www.php.net - to dl php, witch u will need to run php files on your web server.

http://www.apache.org - a good free seb server app for most os's

------------------

http://www.roundridge.com/hs/ -guid on how to set it all up (php + apache)

http://www.juanha.com/apache.htm - another how to set it all up (php + apache + mysql + phpmyadim)

----------------------

now once u got a web server u will need a way for poleop to find it when your ip chages, i whould recomend one of the flowing apps/free serivces to keep track of it:

http://www.no-ip.com

i forget the other ones, i know there are better ones but there links and names escape me right now.

my firewall is a crappy d-link though, and it won't let me change my settings because it is stupid, but maybe i will buy another one. i don't really want to buy a new comp though, but maybe i could maybe build my mom a cheap one and use the family's comp, but id need a bette rprocessor and more ram. too many things to worry about, maybe i will do that later.

hostultra.com is awesome, unlitmied space and badwidt;h

i think u can set the d-link to let one comp be open to the out side or u could just bypase it.

but i can be hectick runing your own server, it is freedom + furstarting work VS nofreedom and having it all done for you.

both are good in there own way...

the freedome part is soo damm true ;D
but thing is..you are so limited because you don't get tons of options of a webhosting site or w/e gives you :S unless you pay..which is stupid because it's better to just buy web hosting.
