They are very hard to compare in reality. One is management fundamentally and organization; one is more "engineering" for lack of a better word.

CS is about creating new software products, or maintaing old ones. It involves writing code, while IT is more about maintaining infrastructure systems and knowing tools to fix things.

It's difficult to answer your question. Describing what the advantages of CS over IT are will vary depending on what is important to you, and depending on the framing / context of your question. Can you provide more details into your question?

I talked to a guy who worked as an IT specialist at a law firm. He told me that, in his interview, the skills that he said would make him suitable for the job, he developed while working for a daycare for his volunteer hours.

According to him, the true skill that an IT requires is the ability to stop grown adults from having temper tantrums, and the majority of the rest of his work he could find through Google

In a way, that's true for a good IT person. Not a great* one, but good. One that keeps up with the workload, and gets stuff fixed, when things break.

* Great IT would preemptively stop most of such temper tantrums from happening in the first place... but then again if things work well enough that IT is invisible, then the management might get a bright idea of firing some of their most important infrastructure personel.

@Tony if things don't go wrong people don't realize how much they need IT. If things do go wrong people complain at how poor of a job IT does. It's the same with a software development team as well, basically any problem that goes wrong in the workplace is the computer guys fault, which makes life difficult for those computer guys.

^ That's why I only ever want to work for a software company*. Working as a developer in a company where software is just an aside means your work will probably be misunderstood, under-appreciated, or a combination of both.

* a company that develops software for a living, a company where a large portion of the employees are developers

Yes working for a software company does help out with less people making stupid decisions (like attempting to outsource work, or changing things last minute) but your work still ultimately will be under-appreciated and misunderstood if you are developing for consumers. Doing research, or working for a company that only targets the tech crowd is probably your only hope.

I wish Hamilton actually had software jobs lol, everything is just working for a larger, non-software company.

Those things are obstacles only because they hinder your ability to do your best work. You'll never make all your users happy, so I find it really helpful if you do your work for the sake of itself and its direct results.

Yeah, it's a big problem though when your "customers" are really the people who pay your salary, and they have done in the past, and continue to consider in the future outsourcing.
