So, I got an offer from Waterloo today, kinda funny. I'm in grade 12 right now, applied to university of guelph, toronto and waterloo. I got accepted to guelph like 2 weeks after i submitted my application, then i got accepted to toronto (offer i wanted badly) and now, well yesterday actually, i got accepted to waterloo. But not for the program i wanted. I applie dfor computer science with co-op at waterloo, and they put me in geomatics. lolooollolloloolol
They said in the email it was really competitive, so I am wondering, anyone want to share their marks with me, only people who applied to waterloo? Btw, I didn't really fill much on the AIF form, cause all I had was one club, 4-year honor roll, 3 contests, co-op and high skills major certification.
is funny, no?

Well, I got in with an admission average around 95 and a bunch of extra curriculars and contests. If you want a bit more info, I posted my marks in the admission averages thread yesterday.
My final admission average will likely be somewhere around 96-97% if all goes well

I got the same offer. They trolled me hard .... I check my email and finally an admission which I only half expected. I open it all excited and pumped only to see geomatics. I'd almost rather thy just rejected me tbh. Oh well I knew this would happen my application was pretty bad ranging from the low marks to bad contest performance etc.....
I did somewhat try on my AIF though.....kind of sad/mad but was already prepared to take the 5th year.
85 average for top 6 though which i thought was alright. I might accept the offer focus on the CS minor and attempt a major change but i'll most likely just take and extra high school year as i was planning to do.

y4y, i wouldnt enter geomatics if it was 20 students. It may include a lot of that sweet cs that we all love, but it isnt the pure cs. Plus, i heard that for waterloo, you have to take some courses that are not related to your program. which is dumb.

Got into CS @ Waterloo about 2 weeks after I submitted it on OUAC (offer on Dec. 6) bit of a shock to be honest.
Anyway, gots me a 91 average, not too too impressive, however they accepted me at a point where I hadn't even accessed my AIF, so I hadn't written a single thing at that point.
But I am not going for CS, doing SE instead.

Some of the best courses I've taken at Waterloo were from the fields of Philosophy, Psychology, Legal Studies, and Japanese. Which cover areas of knowledge/AI, decision making, intellectual property, and localization. All relevant to actually building software.

The reason I'm going to CS is because you can take courses outside of CS as well. The was what put CS over SE for me as a well rounded education is one that can be much more useful than 1 that focuses in on only 1 thing at an undergrad level. Beyond that it makes sense to specialize completely, but why limit your options so quickly out of high school?

For the record, this applies to every post secondary institution ever.

well for UofT, they said you dont have to take a course that isnt related to your program. You can take any extra math courses you want, even though math is a big part of computer science.

Taking courses outside your program helps you as a learner and promotes good development. If you want to be successful you can't have a closed mind and taking courses outside your program opens you to new opportunities.

All UofT CS students have to fulfill a minimum of 2.0 distribution credits from courses that are not part of their program. It's possible, however doubtful, that the engineering programs don't have that restriction.

Here is a discussion of the Geomatics program on Reddit that might be helpful:

I was accepted by Waterloo SE with an average of 97, I think I did pretty well on the AIF. I believe Waterloo weighs the AIF as really really important, so if you didn't try your best you kinda can't blame anyone. I've heard about more than 20 people so far complaining about getting rejected, more than 10 of them was the exact same situation as you. apparently they didnt get close to enough people in geomatics this year LOL. And the fact that they are admitting people before they finish the AIF just tells me that they admitted too may CS at the beginning and didnt have room left for the applicant afterwards. Same thing happened to AFM and FARM this year, which are in two other faculties.

I have yet to hear back from waterloo, whether I am accepted or rejected. It's weird, I really don't expect to accepted (and it doesn't matter because I'm not going anyways) but I'd expect to at least receive a rejection letter....
