Hi,
Anybody know how the 1 week schedule looks like for CCC stage 2 ?
I mean which day (Monday? Tuesday or... Friday ?) do the contest ?
Which day do the practice session (programming and try to submit) ?
What development software tools they provide (Linux/Windows)?
Yours answers and additional information were appreciated very much. |

Hi,
The schedule usually looks something like this: you have practice sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, day 1 of the contest on Thursday morning, and day 2 of the contest on Friday morning. Results are announced at the banquet on Friday evening. You use the thin client labs in the Math & Computing building to access the contest environment, which runs Ubuntu; so the compilers will, naturally, be gcc/g++ and fpc. AFAIK, the following text editors and IDEs are installed: vim, emacs, gedit, kwrite, kate, kdevelop, scite, nano, codeblocks, geany. There may be some that I've missed; but, at any rate, if you want something that might not be installed, you should probably email Troy right now, since he doesn't have root access and he has to find someone else to install programs for him. Additional development tools: gdb (obviously), valgrind, ddd (a horribly unusable front-end to gdb that I don't recommend you use). |

And for library reference, C++ users were allowed to use http://cplusplus.com last year. |

Hi bbi5291, d310,
Two more questions here,
1. There are some tutorials during the week, does it related to the contest problems ? Or it has no relation at all ?
2. How many times you can submit solutions to stage 2 problems ? If the answer can be submit more than once, is there any feedback if the solution can not solve all the cases. Or it is as same as Stage 1 rules, each problem only accept one submission and tell you the result after the contest is done. |

1. The lectures/tutorials cover the basics, and go a bit more beyond that. So they may or may not relate to contest problems. Discussion for contest problems is done almost right after the contest.
2. An important point. I don't believe there is a limit to the number of submissions, feedback is instant, and you can see results for each testcase (e.g. TLE, Accepted, Wrong Answer, Runtime Error etc.). However the number of points scored is not shown, and batching structure of test data is unknown. They use an online judge, so those who use an online judge can expect for similar feedback. But generally in practice sessions, you can go over all of this. |

Hi d310,
Thank you again for the further information. It looks like the rules of stage 2 are very good for capable programmers.
Good night. |

Yeah it's correct that there's no limit on the number of submissions unless they've changed it for this year. |

A few questions for as to what we are supposed to bring? Do we need to bring any supplies needed for the contest with us? (eg laptop, pen, paper, calculator) or is it basically just stuff we need to survive there for the week?
Also, what is the example data like normally, do they provide best case scenario type of data normally or do they provide you with some edge cases/make it easy to determine an edge case? |

From my experience you should bring some supplies, such as pencils, pens, and a calculator.
Computers and paper will be provided for the contest, as well as for practice sessions.
Laptops are optional, free internet (with a cable) is available at the dorms.
As for sample test cases, straightforward and easy to check by hand most of the time. |
