Instead of my usual ultra-posting in the Shoutbox, I decided this one needed special attention.
You may have heard that Steve Jobs has stepped down as CEO. Any thoughts?
Steve Jobs wrote:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve
I personally think that with him gone behind the scenes now, Apple will face at least some consequences for this move. Jobs was probably one of the most prominent celebrity-CEOs and the cause for many fanboys following Apple. In addition, he was basically the creative brain of Apple as be saved it before with innovative ideas, the iSeries in particular. It's hard to see Apple continuing to set industry standards for too long after this event. I don't dispute that they probably will continue to set targets in the mobile front but I think that their creativity will suffer.
EDIT: lolwin, quoting Yahoo:
Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world...

Well, maybe Tim Cook can save OS X now, 'cause Lion's looking to be the Vista of macs. |

nah, Apple will still be ok I think (well at least for a while lol). Apple is stronger than ever and this is probably the best time for him to resign (you certainly can't wait until he dies :/).
Plus, Jobs is still gonna still on in Apple as a Chairman so he would still have some say in the company.
Also, I don't believe Jobs will resign unless he's absolutely certain that Apple won't fck up again (some people may say that his health is a main cause but I call bullshit...well it may be a reason but not a main one ) So Jobs must have trained Tim Cook well enough to let him take rein of the company. |

On another note, I never said I wanted him to die

And now, for some actual insight: http://daringfireball.net/2011/08/resigned
Quote:
The thing to keep in mind is this: Apple tomorrow, a week from now, and next month is the exact same Apple from yesterday, a week ago, and last month. Tim Cook wasn?t named ?CEO? until today, but he?s been the chief executive at the company since Jobs started this ? his third ? medical leave back in January, and probably even before that. Whatever Steve?s role is going forward, it?s only different in title than what it has been, in effect, for some time. Whatever it is that ails him, he?s been diminished.

Nothing will change for the next 3 years at least, you know why? Apple comes up with 5 features, then releases them one at a time in their devices. They already know what's going to be in the iPhone 10. Also Steve Jobs wasn't actually that innovative. He takes other company's ideas, makes them prettier, and says the now have these features you've never seen before in anything. ($10 says in a couple years they will have a 3D camera in the iPhone, and people will call it revolutionary). |
