About 5 minutes ago my transparent theme became the ugly light blue solid color. Not too much of an issue, i looked into it and it appears that Aero craped itself argh, but again not too huge just annoying and something I don't really need but some aspects of Aero I enjoy. I checked the services (services.msc) and it claims that it is functioning normal. At this point it has become a personal issue... it HAS to work properly again lol. (No of course I'm not annoyed at windows, that's 100% improbable.)
I did a bit of quick research and it appears that some people fixed with this by using the restore feature, alas my restore point is eons ago....
Any ideas on an alternative?
p.s I am using the Aero theme but its function and appearance matches win7 basic. |

Did you try resetting the theme?
Perhaps try recovery? |

Had you started any programs at the time it changed? Some programs can't handle Aero (generally because they're dumb) and Aero will cleverly disable itself so they can run. |

No new programs were installed/running - issue has also migrated into having no left boundary so some of my windows are now lost in some non existent display area. This has now become a giant pain in the ass. Its weird though the desktop extends beyond the resolution at the top half of the screen on the left side like
<--------------------------------|
<--------------------------------| < seemingly infinite
<--------------------------------|
------|--------------------------|
------|--------------------------| normal screen
------|--------------------------| |

...
...back up all of your data immediately, just in case.
Try using Alt+Space, M, then arrow keys to see if you can move these windows back onto the screen. You can also use Alt+Space, S, then arrow keys to resize the window. |

Do you use either the hibernate or sleep functions, or do you power your computer down completely? Those functions (particularly hibernate) don't function completely perfectly, and can result in wonky things happening. If you have, try renaming C:\hiberfil.sys to something else, or deleting it. It's hidden, so make sure you've told Windows Explorer to see hidden files. |

Have you been using some kind of remote desktop app? I had a similar problem; it might not help you but just in case: answers.microsoft.com/... |

Have you installed any program/made system changes since your last restore point? If not, you should restore to that point. System Restore only changes system files so your files should be there, but make a backup beforehand just in case.
Also, I know that certain programs, such as the Citrix client, can disable Aero. On my parents computer, they have Citrix installed and the Aero is kinda half working. By this, I mean that it's transparent and stuff, but you can't have any animations (minimize, peek, etc.). |

I believe he already tried System Restore...
And usually when such a program disables Aero, it gives you a dialog box/taskbar popup that tells you that Aero has been disabled b/c this program can't handle it and will be re-enabled when the program exits. |

There is that issue (above) and Windows claims that Aero is running but it is not functioning properly |
