Hey there, I just finished applying to University of Toronto, York and Ryerson for the Computer Science program through OUAC as a mature student. But all of a sudden I am having a second thought and i.e my grades, which are not that great.

Physics - 83%
Advance Function - 75%
Chemistry - 70% (Missed one part of the final exam, so messed up.)
English - 74%
Data Management: Currently Taking (Expecting to get around 90%, midterm 97%)

Approximate Average: 78%

So yeah, I was wondering if I stand any chance of getting accepted into University of Toronto, if not I was thinking of choosing an alternative one otherwise its a waste of one choice. Hope to get a reply soon! Canada

Edit: Also, is there anyone here from University of Ottawa? If so, please tell me how heavy the residential/tuition fee and all that. Thanks

1) I thought applications required 6 courses.
2) considering the total cost of a 4~5 year program, an extra application fee is negligible. I would suggest you apply to more than 3 Universities, and then choose from more options later.

But still, do I stand a chance? And yeah, 6 courses is only needed for regular high school students, I am applying as a mature student (Over 21) which only requires four 4U courses.

Thx, good to know.

All Universities publish previous year's cut-off averages, but those don't take into account supplemental information forms and other information available to admission officers. 78% is probably below expectation for UofT, but that does not mean a certain rejection. If that's your top choice, it might be worth a shot to apply anyway.

I didn't see Calculus in your list. That course would be a very good idea regardless of where you go. I went through the same process - I'm a mature CS student. And Calculus is, for most people, the toughest course. Even if you can get in with the courses that you've done, maybe you can take Calculus after the fact just for the practice. Not sure how that impacts your application process though (and of course your schedule and budget). I'm sure you can still pass Calculus without a recent refresher, but it will require much more effort I think.
