Hello!

I'm a highschool student. I'm interested in going to a university near me (Dalhousie University) or Toronto University. I'm also interested in Waterloo, but I can't go there because I'm an IB student and my school only has standard level math (and Waterloo requires IB students to do higher level math)

I want to do graduate studies and have a research career in computer science.

The pros of Dalhousie:
-Very small class size
-Very close to where I live
-Great atmosphere
-Probably the best university in Nova Scotia

The cons of Dalhousie:
-As far as I know, Dalhousie isn't very well known outside of Nova Scotia
-Limited computer science jobs in Halifax (where Dal is)
-Possibly a lower quality, less prestigious education

The pros of U of T:
-One of the best CS programs in Canada
-Very high quality, rigorous education
-Better international reputation then Dal
-Toronto is where the majority of CS jobs in Canada are (especially research jobs)

The cons of U of T:
-Huge class sizes
-Negative atmosphere
-Far away from where I live

I'm really not sure what to do. What would you recommend for someone in my situation? Has anyone here gone to either university? Can you tell me about your experiences there?

Also, will going to a less prestigious university like Dalhousie make it difficult for me to get into graduate school at a more prestigious university? Also, will it make it more difficult for me to get a job, especially in Toronto?

Thanks a bunch for your time! Smile

_very_ anecdotal, but

Dalhousie (undergrad) -> Waterloo (Ph.D) -> MIT (associate prof)... by age 20.

So it's basically what you make it of.

Home schooled people get all the best education Rolling Eyes
But so i hear often that the reputation of your uni wont matter much after you have work experience. Plus if you feel you can work better in a more comfortable atmosphere then you may learn much better there.
