A while ago I came across a campaign that wanted to lessen the amount of bullying on the Internet (in particular online gaming). I felt a need to support this campaign to its fullest, as I have witnessed how cyber bullying (or any kind of bullying) can affect an individual.

I am posting this message to spread the word about the campaign, and to find out how many people have witnessed, or experienced, cyber bullying. If you have please consider joining the campaign and showing you support by wearing the KEN tag.

You can find out more about the campaign at http://www.thekenburtonshow.com/. Please have a look around on that website, and post what you think about it. Do you support the campaign? Do you think cyber bullying must stop? Do you have a story that you like to share about cyber bullying?

If this seems like an advertisement, than I truly sorry for posting it. Please feel free to delete the thread if it seems like that. However, I wanted to inform anyone that has witnessed, or experienced, cyber bullying, you are not alone. Please join the campaign if you think cyber bullying is wrong.

If anyone would like to add me on PSN in hopes of playing with someone you can feel safe around, please add me. My PSN username is Superskull85, and I will make sure you enjoy yourself when playing online.

Thanks for reading this message, and I hope you support the cause,

Superskull85.

Yes, bullying is bad online or not. But, give me a break, if you're playing any online game expect to get trolled. Hard. And often.

Internet is full of trolls. So is real life. Here they're anonymous. Deal w/ it. If you have a problem with people you know IRL, deal with it IRL. If you don't know them, ignore them and fuck off, stop taking the internet so seriously.

Yeah that was harsh but I'm getting a bit tired of all this commotion over cyberbullying. I literally hear something about it at least once a week either on the news or on inschool events or something ridiculous. At the end of the day the problem remains unsolved (go figure).

I play tons of online games and never once have witnessed 'cyber-bullying'. Trolling, yes. But that's different. I think cyber-bullying is being given too much attention. There is literally nothing that can be done about it.

If people are getting damaged by anonymous bullying then they're already messed up.

I don't play all that many video games (I got into mariokart recently but meh, it's more of an occasional thing).

I don't play many video games (ie on a console) but I play online games on my laptop a lot.

It seems that the campaign mixes "cyber bulling" (a trendy buzzword to jump on) with the fact that online gaming is accessible to adolescent boys and some games are popular with frathouse bros. It's not so much bullying, as simply playing with the wrong demographic.

The problem with this particular campaign though:
Quote:

In the modern world we have got VOIP so when I started gaming again with my son on the Call of Duty series I was shocked and disgusted by what I was hearing.

CoD comes with ESRB rating of M. I'll take an educated guess that his son is well below the rated age-group.

@ Tony

not to mention that there's also a big label at the back that says WARNING ONLINE CONTENT IS UNRATED.

Well, looks like the game publishers did their job. Now parents, it's your turn to take some damn responsibility.
I'd also like to note that the only people I know in real life that have been messed up from cyber bullying is either bipolar or have Asperger syndrome.

you can call cyber bullying what you want but it's still cyber bullying, however expect Murphy's law and grow a freakin backbone! Your fault you didnt read the manual and user agreement for playing online! I'm 100% sure that any online game warns the user about online interactions, Ohh wait, they DONT EVEN HAVE TO! You agree that you are of 18 years of age or older for almost all games online, and even if 12 year old kids are playing this game then whos the ultimate person at fault here? the child who is under age and didnt take precautions to read the user agreements, or the company who has done everything they can to warn the users?

For some odd reason, I'm convinced that most cyber-bullies are the 12 year-olds. No idea why, it just seem to be that way to me. Which still means it's their fault.
