Semester 1 marks
Advanced Functions: 85
Religion: 85
Computer Engineering: 85
Chemistry: 80
Semester 2 mid-term marks:
Calculus: 73.. A family member died and I couldn't focus in school
English: 85..
I have three extra curriculars on my AIF which include robotics team, electric car, tutoring. I also wrote the euclid math contest.
I probably won't get into the co-op program, but I think I stand a chance at the regular program, am I right?
I am also wondering.. I went to the open house back in march and they told me the tuition rises each year by a significant amount, by how much approximately? Anyone know? |

I got into co-op with similar grades, you should be okay. Do whatever you can to get that calc up.
I believe tuition increases are about 3% this year. For a full-time CS student, that's somewhere between $100 and $150.
Per term: budget about $5000 (probably won't be that high, but play it safe) for tuition and school fees (add $600 for co-op), and another $500 for books. If you're in rez, that's a seperate matter. |

You are on the edge. I got rejected with similar marks in high school (I had an 83 average) and I wrote the Euclid and CCC as well. |

On the Waterloo website, computer science is 10700 for two terms, so yes it will more than 5000 for tuition. And books are closer to 1800 for both terms so, 900 per term unless you get them used or get around the regular cost somehow.[/quote] |

Hi there.
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but it is related and I dont want to polute the forums with clone threads.
Here are my first semester marks (final):
Adv. Functions : 75
Philosophy : 83
English : 82
Second semester, mid terms:
Chem : 80
Physics : 81
Calculus : 62
I got roasted in Calc, I was sick through almost an entire unit. I hope to get that mark to a 75 by the end.
I am returning for one semester, next year, then working for the other before I leave. I am going to take CompSci, CompEng, and Writers Craft.
Do I have any real hope of getting in?
? is supposed to be a question mark. ![Razz Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

Raising Calc to 75 still leaves your average below 80. The CompSci marks I've seen of applicants tend to be higher (don't know about CompEng) so if you can pull off better marks, those two may raise you into borderline territory.
A better question to ask is whether it will be doing you a favour to admit you. The math at UW will hit you like a ton of bricks. The CS courses are more mathematically-oriented as well. I'm not saying that you won't be able to deal with it, but you will have to be prepared to work damn hard. |

Sorry to kind of go off topic here...but does waterloo look at your midterms or final marks (for 2nd semester courses) for scholarships? |

They are looking at both now, to prevent people from slacking off after midterms. |

CS tuition increases 8% a year, but each year you pay 3.72% less, for a net increase of 4%. Fees are posted on the finance website.

Not really. The most I ever paid for a textbook was about $150, and most are about half that, and not all courses even have a textbook. (For math at Waterloo; it may vary by subject.) |

This is for me but, and I am only going to talk about first year core courses for CS. Imo you only need the calc text book. The CS text book you really don't need for either cs 135 or 136, for algebra you don't need it, your note should be good enough, but for calc the text has a nice set of problems (that's all I've used it for). As for electives, I got away with not buying text books. Again things vary so I won't say buy or don't buy. |
