I'm just asking this, because looking at the profile settings, edit profile settings, I found Always allow censored words: Y(), N(). If we can choose if we want to see censored words, then can we swear too? lol.

Traditionally this board has been PG13. This is due to the extreme amount of high school kids that frequent this site. If we started allowing too much language, this site would be banned by schools making it much less useful to those students.

Though Tony/Dan will have to give you a definitive answer.

I'm not completely against it altogether (for example, using the 'C' word in the right moments), but be careful of too much - it often leads to (or is a direct result of) flaming.

There aren't really the right moments.

True enough, either way if you are cursing you should probably re-read your post. Reconsider about what you are about to say.

Swearing is against the rules, the only possible excepction is in the User Lounge, where topics can be created with an NSFW tag and contain more mature topics (tho nothing overly vulgar, rude or offensive).

The option is given to turn off the filter as it is not used for censoring words but converting some tags into links.

For example:
Turing Walkthrough becomes a link: Turing Walkthrough

So the filter has nothing to do with swearing?

You might get to know that we have a history of standing up against censorship. A filter is easily defeated with the use of unicode, l33t speak, or just throwing in an extra space. Users engaging in "filterable content" typically have bad enough English to make this a difficult problem.

But just like there's a difference between Free Speech and Hate Speech, we _will_ deal with disruptive behaviour that undermines the community.

Does that seem fair enough?

Not any more, it did back in V1 and for a bit of V2 of the site but it was easy for users to get around it and would some times censor words that where fine. I have just been to lazy to update the description on the profile page to say what it relay does now.

It also removes some unsafe urls or urls we don't want Google or any one else to think we are associated with and is used for April fools jokes.

Ok... So I still dont know what it's for, but atleast I know it has nothing to do with what it's called... lol, that discribes a rule you broke for naming conventions Smile.

So what, if we put NSFW (Not safe for work, or not safe for wemon ;p) then the name of the thread, you are allowed to write how you really talk every day then? (I know I speak to my family different then from my friends)

NSFW turns it from PG13 to, um, M I guess. Or is it R? I can't remember now.

That relay depends on the context, flaming other users even with language that is PG13 will likely get you in trouble, however ranting about some technology or company with more mature language would likely be considered ok.

Obviously posting or linking to obscene or pornographic content is a no go, however more mature content such as some not so safe for work jokes, memes and videos would be allowed. For example the amazing horse meme, is very iffy for the shoutbox and normal forums (if some one posted images of certain parts or embed the video in a post it would be removed) however it is fine for the user lounge.

Basically use good judgment about what might be considered offensive and if in doubt ask an admin or mod.

P.S. Shock sites = instant ban, so don't even try.
