Someone offered me $350 to buy a .ly domain name that I own. Its 3 characters long (5 characters if you include 'ly'). Should I sell it?

depends on the actual name of the domain (the 3 characters part)

3 character domains for country code TLDs are not that rare and it is Libya, so $350 may not be that bad an offer depending on what the domain is.

Are you planing on actually using the domain? and do you have any idea on what the buyer is planing on using it for?

The domain is

I made the name an img so it doesn't get indexed.
I was going to make a joke site. The buyer plans on using it for an online bible study app.
He initially offered $200. I asked for $400, he countered with $350.

Sounds like you were willing to sell, and are now just looking for market value. Though it seems that unless someone else thinks that the name is a great idea, you have a possible buyer list of one. You can try to guess as to how attached they might be to the name, but I'm guessing that they are at a stage where they can pick another name that's not taken.

Anyways,

is open too so you might want to consider the fact that they are looking into that one too

Edit: Dunno even if a domain with that suffix is allowed...lol

Personally I rather see a domain used then just horded for the possibility of selling it some day, so i say either sell it to them or do something with it, even if it is just for e-mail or hosting files.

I don't know much about pricing domains (i would think it is rather subjective and dependent on how badly some one wants it) however $350 is proably a great offer for a .ly TLD. Also from my understanding .ly domains cost an oddly high amount per year, so it does not make secne to hold on to it as long with out using it as you would with a .com or .ca domain.

If you do deiced to buy, make sure you are up to date with the rules for transferring Libyan domains (each TLD can have there own rules) and make sure you don't get scammed.

The value is more in the vanity name rather than the fact that it's a Libyan TLD. I'm under the impression that a bunch of web startups are going for .ly, but they all appear to be in the domain-shortening space: bit.ly post.ly ow.ly
