You couldn't find any better Mario sprites?
If you want to continue with this to make a platformer:
- try incorporating dynamic velocities (using incremental values with a terminal velocity)
- Have dynamic jump heights (running speed affects jump heights)
- Get some cleaner sprites. You're using original Mario sprites with a super Mario background.
Other than that, neat.

I was thinking more of a 'Learn to Fly' upgrade style w/ long jump instead of gliding.
