Hey,
so I ended up finishing MCR-3U with an 83, combination of not liking the teacher, and my own errors, but I feel like I can do much better, and that's not really appealing to universities... if I retake the class, I'll have the same teacher and the same tests and quizzes (Which I saved) and I'll probably get 95+. Think it's worth retaking it next year, and having 11U and 12U functions in the same year?

canadian universities only look at your gr 11 marks for early acceptance. so don't worry about it. just do your best on gr 12 and you'll be fine.

It is really only myth that your grade 11 marks matter (in Canada anyway), Colleges and Universities alike really only care about your grade 12 marks.
Don't worry about it, you'll do fine.

I got a 65 in math in grade 11. I am now in Medical Physics at Ryerson. Grade 12 counts, only grade 12.

I got the same teacher from grade 11 as I did for grade 12! She told me to get out and not return! You're in good condition.

ah see but I'm one of those students who's obsessed with getting into SE at Waterloo...
I don't think I'm going to retake it, I'll just work my ass off (again!) next year

There are many quality software engineering programs in other Ontario universes, obsessing over just one is probably not healthy. If you get into to Waterloo and want to go there then by all means do so. However it is not the end of the world if you end up at McMaster, U of T, or any other accredited software engineering program. What you get out of university is largely dependent on your own initiative and willingness to learn, the reputation of a university may sound great but if you learn nothing it's useless.
I recommend stressing less over admissions and simply do your best and be happy.

I'm only obsessing over the co-op part. I agree that there are many excellent Canadian universities that I'd be happy to go to, but I'm not sure if I can afford it...

I (and many other kids from my hs) got into SE at UW. The lowest of our entrance average is 82, the highest 93.
As far as I can tell they only really care about your gr 12 marks. 83 for gr 11 isnt terrible.

Many universities have co-op programs (including McMaster; which is not terribly hard to get in to) that will help you earn some money during the summer (or during longer periods; depending on the program). If you need some money to help you get into a university, that what OSAP (or similar) is there for. Yes it puts you in dept, but it allows you to continue your education without waiting a year or two.
Just try getting the best marks you can get, and you will most likely get into a school with a co-op option that will allow you to earn extra money, and give you hands-on experience. Enjoy your last couple of years of high school; instead of stressing too much over your marks.

I am going for a Major in Computer Programing Analysis and maybe minor in Game design (if i want to stay an extra year)
mind you I barely made it out of high school.
I got where I am today by mistake I swear.
and not getting into Waterloo is not the end of the world.
There are credited schools in various disciplines of IT all over the place. Just find one in a town/city with a good IT sector and make sure they have a co-op program.
The hardest job to get in IT is your first job. Co-op is a great way to get your foot in the door.
