Hi,

For the Facility of Mathematics AIF, it asks the question "If you have attended other secondary schools, colleges, or universities, list them below.". I was wondering whether anyone knows whether if I took summer school or virtual school, am I suppose to list the schools took at under here?

If you weren't officially enrolled in those schools, I don't think you need to mention them.

That question is for full-time attendance.

However, if you took courses at virtual school or summer school, you must say so on the next page, and provide an explanation.

Hi all, since we're on the same subject, I have went to a different high school last summer for a grade 11 course. Here is my entry for that school in the AIF:

School: West Toronto Collegiate Institute. 330 Location: Lansdowne Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6H 3Y1. Date: [2009/07 ? 2009/07] Purpose: Summer school program BAF3M1

Prabhaker, when you said to provide an explanation, is the one above sufficient enough?

And a few more questions on the AIF, when you enter in the grade 12 courses you have entered, where is applicable to say that the courses are AP (advanced placement) courses? I went to guidance earlier and they told me to put a asterisk beside the AP courses and put a little legend below the courses table.

I'm having a little difficulty trying to remember past honours/distinctions I have recieved that are non-academic. Do they have to be official papers which are presented to me stating I did this and that?

Let me reiterate.

It seems to me that the "schools you attended" on the first page means you did all your schooling there in a regular year. You shouldn't list summer school there.

You do need to list courses taken at night school, virtual school, or summer school on the second page, and there is a box for an explanation. Too many people take such courses because the grading standards are easier. Waterloo Math will dock you 1% off your average for each such course (or for repeating a course to boost your mark) unless you have a good explanation.

Non-academic honours/distinction refers to, for example, community service awards. Not too many people have things to put down in this category.

There doesn't seem to be an official way to indicate AP courses. What your guidance people suggested is probably fine. --PR

I have wrote down my primary high school that I attend. On the next page, I have listed the school I went to get a summer course. So do I have to put the explanation for applying to the summer course on the box in the page where you list grade 12 courses? What if my summer course was a grade 11 course (and I needed to take that as a prerequisite for the grade 12 accounting)? The box says to "Please provide a reason why any courses listed above were not taken at day school." and I didn't enter in the grade 11 summer course into the list, so what do I do?

If it's a grade 11 course, you don't need to list it, or the school, or provide an explanation. That only applies to your grade 12 courses.

But on the second page, it said to list any other secondary schools you have attended. Don't I have to list the school on the next box in the following page? (the one saying "If you have attended other secondary schools, colleges, or universities, list them below.")

My interpretation is that that box is for the situation where you did all of grades 9 and 10 at one school, say, and then grades 11 and 12 at another. I don't think it applies to one course in summer school. But I could be wrong. You can always phone UW and ask them.

To those wondering, yes you do have to put any other secondary schools you attended (even though it's only for a summer course or night course) hopes this helps. Thanks for your help Prabhakar.
