how to destroy the media

So for the last hour, I've been trying out windows live messenger and that stupid news feed is driving me crazy, so I decided to turn it off.

But msn won't let you. Time for some harmless tweaking

Here's a great little tweak(not really a hack) that will disable it.

Open up internet explorer, go to internet explorer -> tools -> internet options -> privacy

then set the bar to "Block All Cookies"

and voila! disabled. Now the media has slightly less access to you

edit : I realize this only works if IE isn't your default browser, but who in their right mind uses IE anyway?

What if you're not using windows at all and you dont have the ability to "block all cookies"?

Good idea for those who do have windows and use the new live messenger.

and apomb, live messenger doesn't work on linux, and the much superior aMsn doesn't have ads

Haha well I'm just busting your chops, because live messenger for mac doesnt contain ads either, so truly, Tony's idea is by far the easiest solution. However, there are many stubborn people out there.

There are a lot of problems with aMSN... it has the potential to be superior, though...

aMSN is okay, but I prefer Emesene on Linux. I wish there was an OS X version. Oh well, Adium is good enough for now (when will they ever put video chat in?).

Adium is open source, so feel free to contribute. Meanwhile Skype does an excellent job at video.

Yeah I know it's open source, but I wouldn't be able to help because I don't know enough to do anything. Plus adding video chat would be hard because you have to figure out how the official MSN works.

I use Digsby - Minus the fact that they've been working on their image problems. It's a pretty awesome Multi-Protocol IM. The only problem is Webcams though and file transfer, however I don't use mine often enough. Mainly since file transfer is goddamn slow.
