How can be the simplest and oldest form of connectivity also have the best digital quality?

SO it is equal with optical audio except audio has a higher bandwidth?

Whatever you use to connect wont effect audio quality if it's digital, optical can just transfer data faster, so can transfer higher quality audio.
It doesn't really matter unless you have audio that is that high quality.

I've never heard of using coaxial for audio, this is what you mean, right?

Littleuse history

Back in the 20th century, we had DEC. And DEC supported ThickWire and ThinWire Ethernet. Thickwire coax, umm, half inch diameter? and ThinWire at half the size. A punching tool slammed the ThinWire into the ThickWire. It was fun setting up our local segment. And way nerve wracking, it being a Bad Thing if the ThickWire went dark.

Sorry Euphoracle I accidently deleted your post after accidently editing it. Really sorry.

Neutral

^ this is my new post.

Also old content: anything digital is highest quality because it is lossless (1's n 0's vs analogue signal) you can use a coat hanger for the same effect. optical's only advantage is the signal is basically immune to interference. however it requires more hardware and coaxial is a cable designed for long range transmission and is shielded and whatnot to stop harmful interference and stuff. Coaxial provides bad picture on your tv because it is jamming lots of l+r audio and 480i picture into an analogue signal using a single copper wire and ancient methods of signal broadcast. think usb: digital signal over copper

Unless you're using it to push around lossy content, like what most people use for music and video.

The digital transmission itself is lossless. Obviously you could digitally broadcast lossy content, but it wouldn't degrade any more in transmission.

It's still lossless. It's bit-perfect from the source and that's all that matters in a cable.

I'm just clarifying because a lot of people think that digital is magically better quality, like their 128kb/s mp3 rip (possibly lossy transcode as well) is higher quality than an LP.
A bit off topic, but I think it's important.

[edit] Your post sounded like you were talking about content ("anything digital")
