YouTube is down for maintenance and will be back shortly

Sad

Tho the description dose remind me of the "putting out a fire with sound" myth the mythbusters tested.

aah unlucky
but it is not quite that the experiment. it is more being able to see soundwaves with a line of fire.

Oh man, I had a major urge to make one of these when I last stumbled this. I need to see if I can made a smaller version somehow, using higher pitched music i guess.

you probably could.

all you would need is a program that lets you make beeps and bloops.

OOOHHH lets shove some 8-bit tunes through that and we can then see square flames.

@dan: they did do that during that episode. and 8-bit sound would not be square, it would produce a very nice sine-wave, however. it would be almost impossible to input a sound that would create a square wave due to the harmonics necessary for a square wave to be produced. Smile

i know that your 8-bit comment was just a joke, dont worry Wink

lol not really.
true 8bit is squarish waves. I did a number of experiments with WMP.

if you find the song "In another castle" by PixlCrushr the waves are almost square and with some playing with the equalization of bass and treble they looked like
....... ____....... ____
____|......|____|......|___

and that wasn't a joke actually

8bit music means that that each sample is 8bits in size. It's like how 8bit graphics means that it uses an 8bit colourmap, not hugely pixelated like people think.

[edit] iirc, pretty much all you use square waves for are drum kicks. (If you don't have a sample or a drumset)

true, but if you ever look at 8bit music made on a DMG (the first ever gameboy) using LSD-J the waves are almost perfect squares...ima have to load up a screenshot for all of you nonbelievers

If all you needed was a square wave, 2bit would be more than enough

nope that is the right song... set the equalizer to flat and try again

If your equalizer is making that much change, you can't say that you're still listening to that same song.
You sure that's not just a visualization?
