I have the dell vostro 1500 and it overheats like mad.. after one hour it's like burning hot on the bottom
i was wondering if this is just a problem with the fan or design flaw and how i could fix it

Try a cooling pad. You can find them at most computer places like best buy and feature shop.

Basicly they are just a flat pice of plastic with pc fans in them that you can put your laptop ontop of.


If that dose not work, try cleaning out the vents on your laptop with compresed air (when the laptop is turned off and has cooled down).

It's probably a design flaw - almost every dell I've seen has had issues with overheating.

Cooling pads might work; however you could also look at turning on CPU speed throttling if you can; and under-volt the CPU.

Odd; my Dell has no issues with overheating. The highest temperature I've ever seen internal components register is only about 60C and that was the graphics card while playing Portal. The bottom gets hot, but not hot enough to burn you (enough to make you sweat if it's already summer, though).

My girlfriend's MacBook, on the other hand, often spikes up to 70C or worse - it's an early revision and has hideous problems with overheating.

Once while rendering a video, my MacBook Pro went past 90C.

yea, when playing Crysis for about 3 hours my laptop could probably cook my dinner for me... (75C-85C)

My solution: I built a K-Nex platform to allow better airflow ^_^ (55-70)

If K-Nex is in short order try some books, but make sure they don't cover the vents on the bottom.

That sounds like a design flaw that's prone to ending in a lawsuit.

But when I searched on the internet, people's were worse (like 110C and higher) and it only happened that one time.

haha awesome, if i bring that when i go camping next month i can boil water on it who needs a coleman stove or bbq these days

I don't know, but that was the processor temperature, the other temperatures were a lot lower (except GPU). I would assume it has a shutoff but the Pro is meant to do CPU intensive tasks and a lot of people would be pissed if it shutoff while rendering their video or something.

lol same here (gas, moss (lul thick smoke ftw), ant infested logs (look fireants) wrapping a plastic bag around a stick and lighting it on fire and listening to the molten drops of plastic wine as they fall, onetime we put a toilet seat on there.)
