yeah anyone got any news about UTSC ?!?... deadline is thursday and i don't know whether to accept it or not !!!.. and i dont know if i'd rather be a software engineer or computer engineer (n).

ps - for software engineering, if its under an accredited engineering program, i read that it is very strict on the courses it has to take while compsci is more leaniant (*sp) ... what are the mandatory courses to take for engineering ?

pps. is it possible to accept on OUAC on thursday... but then decline in june for compsci at utsc ?

As far as I know, for SE in UW, you have to take chemistry cuz its an accredited eng program; you don't in cs.

I hear it's pretty good, there are some good profs and they have a co-op program, which is unique to the other U of T campuses.

If you want to deal with code design and such issues, go with software engineering.

If you're interested more in the low level and electrical aspects of computers, go with computer engineering. They are two pretty distinct subjects.

And a CS program with a software engineering option will lead to a B.Sc/BCS instead of B.ENG in SE

The CS program could also lead to a B. Math, possibly. Smile

i accepted my offer to utsc since today is the last day... but i'm not sure if that is the right choice... is there a way for me to decline the acceptance and stay in highschool for a victory lap (extra year)?... my cousin says i could if i don't pay them anything.

Noramly you just pay them a deposit when you accept the offer and you only lose that if you change your mind about going.

However i don't see any value in taking an extra year of high school if you have been accepted to U of T. It is posible to change your program after you start university so if you do a year of software engineering and hate it you could proably switch to computer engineering or computer science (tho you would like have some credits to catch up on but at the very least you would have some electives done).

ahhh... really ???... how/ where do i find out how much the deposit is ?? on the package they sent me all they had was a 400$ deposit for residence by june something... i think the whole point of me second judgeing myself is that i'm scared to go into university / leaving highschool... truely was amazing 4 years. also i won't make much friends in uni since i will be commuting from home. my cousin is at utsc and only has 2 friends after 4 years... my gut feeling is saying compsci.. but part of me is saying noope. so far in my ics4m course i've been understanding everything, but now i'm having a bit of trouble with OOP. (Turing).

also @ utsc it is compsci general first year then you specialize second year; i'll probably end up trying software engineering my second year or try to transfer to UTSG

It may be they don't have a deposit for acepcting the offer, thats just how it was for me with my undergrad and now masters at Lakehead, but in either case it should be posible to change your mind.

Well in that case waiting a year will not help much, you have to leave highschool some time.

If you are woried about making firends, residence is the place to live for the school year. At the very least you will get to know your roommates and for me (at Lakehead) they had alot of "house" events where every one on your floor particpated as a team aginsted other houses as well as other rez events.

You can allways change programs no matter what you do first year but it can be a bit of a set back time wise if you keep changing.

yeah, the problem is that I'm going to be living at home... i really wanted to go to a university further from home so i could get the whole experience but utsc is like a half hour drive and its the only place i got accepted to. haha really wanted to go to Waterloo / mac / utsg therefore at least i would HAVE to have residence.

i know waterloo's co-op pays the most... how much does utsc pay ? i tried looking on the site but couldn't find an estimate. if everything works out i should graduate with some extra cash =D
