i finally got W7 RC 7100 to work after a week of mucking with partitions and bootloaders.
for all of you out there who are wondering
to install w7 you can install it over vista (backup recomended) and then restore vista back when you are done with it and still have your programs and settings untouched (so they clame). OR You can make another partition. DO NOT FORMAT THE PARTITION leave it as unallocated space and let w7 handle it.
after a 20 min wait and answering some questions you will have a bootloader from windows to choose your OS (in my case vista or w7 and you can't not install it, it just happens)
if you have GRUB installed and you want to get rid of it and you are using vista...boot off the windows disk, select your language and ten below the install now. look for recovery...something...open up the console and type Bootrec.exe /FixMbr exactally that. It will say it sucuessfully changed itself...restart and viola GRUB is gone for good.
then install w7
and for all of you wondering...this is literally the first thing i did with w7....setup-startup-writeup on compsci
--------------------------------------------edit-----------------------------------
one last thing. W7 automatically finds your drivers...no muss no fuss just let it run and it works (amazing isn't it) |

let me know what you think of w7. i wasn't really happy with vista(too slow sometimes, ridiculus memory and cpu consumption) how ever vista has neat new functions i liked. |

it is pretty much vista...that works, and easier to understand. And of course they added some features...like slightly new look and a cool new taskbar |
