Hey guys,
Just set up ubuntu on another laptop, yesterday it connected to the wireless WEP network fine, but not today. I boot, it doesn't connect, and I have to re-enter the WEP key. I reboot, same problem, once more just to be sure it's not bad luck, and it still doesn't remember it. Anyone here have an idea why?
(the ubuntu forums are not working for me for some reason, so that's why I'm asking here) |

I found this at Ubuntu Forums:
Quote: edit /etc/network/interfaces
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid whateverthatis
wireless-key whateveryourkeyis
Then restart network
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
Here's another thread at Ubuntu Forums that has a similar solution. [url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=508052]Click Here.[url] |

I could never get Ubuntu to save my wifi keys - but then I never had much luck with Ubuntu anyways... the debian way sucks
Try Arch |

That's what I keep telling him!!
But nooo... It's too hard to install a desktop enviroment from scratch apparently.
However this may assist you with your problem http://wicd.sourceforge.net/
It is an alternative network manager. I was having some problems using the Gnome network manager in Debian but when I replaced it with that everything went fine. You may have to install a custom repository or download from the site.
EDIT: There are instructions for Ubuntu on the download page. |
