So, over the last few days, my girlfriend has started getting a lot of text messages. They're all somewhat similar, and most of them look very similar to the ones you would get if you have your mobile actually set up to receive text messages from hotmail or facebook. Stuff like "so and so accepted your friend request," and things of that nature. And my favourite, "You have (2) new booty calls!" Lol. It's getting ridiculous though, she's getting like 20 a day. Anybody know why this is happening, or how to stop it? I've never heard of anything quite like it. Oh, and the phone numbers that they're coming from are all similar, but never completely the same.
Thanks. |

easy way to stop it
1. throw the phone in the lake
2. get a new number

Has she done those text message challenges from TV? e.g. Is the iPhone black or red. Text the answer to 12345. |

She hasn't done any of those things, which is why this is puzzling me so much. |

What number are the messages being send from?
And posts in Off-Topic don't count. |

Posts in off topic should count - it's where I post most
Dod she register for the do not call list? It's apparently being used by companies outside of Canada (and companies inside of Canada - the CRTC refuses to actually charge anyone) to spam people. |

isn't it a $10 000 fine from the FCC in the states?
So you could just spoof your caller ID |

Yes, there were reports of people getting more spam via Do-No-Call. |

The Canadian do-not-call list applies only to companies in Canada (and only if the CRTC fines them, which despite numerous complaints it hasn't). The US do-not-call list applies only to companies in the united states.
Canadian companies call americans, american companies call canadians. It's a genus scheme since it's easy to get both lists, and without a treaty and international cooperation (hahaha.) it can't be stopped. Plus big business apparently openly owns sentators in the states now, so that'll never happen.
Oh - and filing a complain requires knowing the name, and address of the company calling you. Many are just hanging up instead of giving it. |

You will notice that alot of compays send/calling you with this spam block or spoof there number.
I have added my own number to the do not call list and over all i have seen less spam, however there was this one company with an automated fake survey for a free curise ship ticket scam that would still keep calling. There number allways showed up as 0000000000. I evenutaly filled out the survey like (just entering random numbers) intill i got to a human operator (i guses they still need thos to take your CC number) and fraked out at them intill they placed me on there internal do not call list (or so they side).
I find that alot of companys have there own company wide do not call list and if you ask they will put you on it (this works for me for my bank and charaities as the candian do no call list does not applie to them [compys that you have business with can spam you and so can charities]).
As for SMS spam thats realy odd if the spam does not say a company or anything and just says "so and so accepted your friend request". It makes me think that it is more some one registering for 2nd rate social media sites with your gf's phone number. |
