So, in our game design class, it becomes apparent just how connected our instructor is. He got Rory Armes, general project manager for EA to come in and give a talk. In that talk... he showed a developer's video of the Army of Two sequel. It is completely unique and has never been shown anywhere else. Unfortunately, no copies to post, but I can talk about what I saw in the video!
Still a year of development to go. But the game plays and plays well. AI is vastly improved, as is the context menus. Environments are beautiful, multi-colored(!!), and dynamic. Stone edifices crumble, wood splinters, blood spatters, all dynamic. Physics engine is extremely updated, with nearly perfect wind blowing leaves and scraps around. Improved crouching, running, walking animations. Extended support for tactics. A few tactical examples we saw: surrenduring to opposing mercenaries while partner sneaks up and takes them out, grabbing a leader as a hostage, then tying up soldiers, knocking over a radio towers to form a bridge between buildings.
There was discussion of possibly allowing building demolition as a tactical tool. Dialog and voice acting is much improved. Level design is being worked on, facial animations is being worked on. Improving and extending the dynamic environments is being worked on. Fixing odd edge cases for the AI is being worked on.
Overall impressions: AO2 40th day is looking very impressive, and a lot better than the first one. |

UBC-Okanagan. We hired a new sessional instructor, Vadim Bulitko, whom is really connected to industry. I just hope next year that when they do the class again, they can get someone from EA to come in again. |
