I say change it, or at least make it narrower, I believe the max width is 125 pixels wide...

Agreed. Why even start a thread? If anyone is offended/disturbed/annoyed by it (for a good reason), you should change it. Animated gifs are generally a pain, as are large pictures and huge signatures.
