Yes, but not in a magazine cover which you pay next to nothing for and which would appear to be easily hackable. |

the thing with the magazine cover version is that you get very limited control over the e-ink. It's almost like a 7 segment display in that you can only control large segments of the display rather than each pixel. That would require a lot more battery and processing power. If you look at the pics of the disassembled display, you can see that there are something like 11-12 pins and around 11 portions of the display that change colors. I'm guessing each pin controls that segment and the last pin is ground or something like that.
If you go to the e-ink website, they have a kit you can buy (for $3000) and it comes with a 400MHz processor, runs linux, has graphics drivers and has 2 fairly big lithium batteries and that's only for a 6" display.
So while it may be easily hackable, there's not much hacking to be done. |

I thought this particular screen was more hackable then it really is. Segmented displays aren't so useful.
Ahh well, still neat. |
