How many times have you seen the scene; a student waits anxiously while someone reads the letter. "You got in!"

No you didn't. Not with a thin letter sized envelope. When you get accepted you get a huge manilla envelope stuffed with information and forms. Rejection letters are the thin ones (I think - never seen one actually - but I can only assume).

Sorry for another off-topic. That one always breaks my suspension of disbelief when I'm watching TV.

Cheers

Actually there are thin "You got in!" letters. Though they are the "we don't want you in the program you want to be at, but if you want to come anyway, you can enroll in any of the following programs that no one applied for" type of "you got in" letters.

I can only assume that the response rate for those is rather low, so they don't bother with the "thickness".

When have you come across this frequently enough for it to be noticeable? I can only recall two such scenes - one in American Pie, and another in Accepted. In the first, it's a thick envelope (she gets in), and in the second it's a series of thin envelopes (because he's the master of fail).

But yes, breaking the suspension of disbelief isn't cool.

I've gotten two acceptance letters. The first was thin, normal sized. Forms came the day after. The other was when I transferred to UBC-O, and they only sent me an email.

I too received a thin letter from the University of Ottawa. The official forms came a couple weeks later.

I stand corrected. Thanks gentlemen. I'll shut up now.

@DemonWasp; Last night it was the APTN werewolf show. The girl was waiting for her dad to open the letter. But in future, I'll take the scenes for what they are, thin acceptance letters being possible. So now I'm back to believing in werewolves. Wink

Cheers.

I applied to about 18 diffrent programs (at about 10 or 12 diffrent university) when i was in grade 12 as i was not sure where i wanted to go and i can tell you that aceptentce letters come in all difrent kinds of shapes and sizes. Form Wilfrid Laurier sending a masive package with a course calendar book in it to UofT sending a few pices of paper. On average most come with a folder with there logo on it containing all the papers in a legal paper sized envelope.

There also is a shit load of spam university's will send you well applying so what is some what unrealsitc is knowing the letter has to be a rejection or acpectence letter and not just random spam.

I blive i still have a big box of all the mail i was sent some where, maybe i could digg it out and scan a few to show what they look like.

(I am still getting letters from Nipissing University)

10 or 12 different universities?! are you insane? Did it not cost you about $10 or so per application plus about $40 for the first?

My understanding when I was applying for programs, (I was in the OAC half of the double cohort, so application time was late 2002), was that the average student applied to something like 3schools/5programs total*. The cost is really immaterial in the long run if you think about it. Finding the education that is best for you is certainly worth the extra $10! Smile

*(I personally know someone who sent applications to 8 schools/13 programs. I bet THAT made choosing difficult Smile)

For college, we applied through OCAS. I got a regular (maybe legal) sized letter from the college saying I was accepted and to confirm the offer as soon as possible. Then once I confirmed the offer, the forms came in.

It cost quite a bit if it remeber right, also makes you get some funny phone calls when universitys call you up and ask why they are listed as 18th.

I applied to one, and got it, after a long line of discrepancies between my Homeschooling curriculum that I used from G 7-11, and Alberta/Ontario curriculum. It was kind of funny listening to the rep. ask why my Math 30 Pure/Advanced functions equivalent was a grade 11 subject.
