I've been averaging 5.33 courses per term so far: 5 every term, +1 extra second term. Six courses was hard, but not unmanageable that early; I elected to take six because I'm still toying with the idea of a double-major (CS and Mathematical Physics), and I wanted to get the Chemistry requirement out of the way. I wouldn't do it again, however - courses get much harder and demand a lot more time.

If you're going to do six courses in a term, make sure that it's one of your first two terms, or else that you pack it with easier courses (I would recommend philosophy...pretty soft, you can get away with making stuff up in many places, and no rote memorisation required).

I'm planning on cutting back to 4 courses per term when I'm mangling my way through the more difficult CS / Math / Physics courses.

...perhaps I should do that this term. Right now, I'm set up to do Quantum Mechanics I and Differential Equations (eek).

Edit: I passed every course in every term. Some were close (Calc2 was bloody well too close at 53%), but I passed everything.

Guess I'll have to worry about all that later. I think I should be fine with the courses I have now though.

Yes, you should be fine for your first year.

Though the general piece of advice is to not let yourself end up in a term with more than one of any of the "big 3" CS courses (compilers, realtime, graphics). In fact, assume a reduced amount of time available for any other courses in the term, so plan accordingly. Though that's not an issue until upper years... if at all.

I have to wait a whole year until I'm in university. Can't wait.

I think Ultrahex said it best:

Reality Check, those are only lectures right? Do you have any labs or tutorials?

Hey iluvchairs, that's pretty cool. What's your name?

Gandalf, those are only my lecture times, I got tutorials at various times (again most of them are as early as possible (I hate late classes) and I have some things called TST. I think that means test slot not sure.

Also, I enjoy more school. I'll be bored when there is nothing else to learn...of course I say that now. I could be hating it 3 years from now. Well, looking forward to my 5 years at UW, maybe meet some of you guys. Thanks for the help.

That's a slot for your tests/midterms. Used by Quest to keep track of conflicts... I'd hope. Don't worry about that one (unless you have conflicts).

We need to put in an order for compsci.ca hats.

Seriously though, UW compsci.ca meetup/university tour is once again scheduled for March, so make sure to come out. There will be wings.
