I was screwing with photoshop and made something cool ...

filter > render > difference clouds

filter > brush strokes > angled strokes - 50, 15, 3

filter > stylize > wind - stagger, from the right
filter > stylize > wind - stagger, from the left
filter > stylize > wind - stagger, from the right

image > rotate canvas > 90º CW
-----
filter > stylize > wind - stagger, from the left
filter > stylize > wind - stagger, from the right
filter > stylize > wind - stagger, from the left
-----
image > rotate canvas > 90º CW

... here's where it gets cool Smile ...

filter > stylize > glowing edges - 2, 7, 5

image > adjust > Hue/Saturation... (ctrl+u) - colorize - saturation 100 and then play with hue

red is the first one I tried it with Smile it looks pretty cool ... also if you do an invert you can make a sort of old parchment looking thing ... sort of
