Hey guys, in my econ class we have having a stock stimulator and we need to buy $100 000 of stocks; question is which ones will grow the most in, say 6 weeks?
FYI: yes I am aware of that old saying that goes something along the lines of picking stocks by a human is the same as a monkey.
Oh, and if its Canadian it is preferred . [just don't ask why.]
Key words: SHORT-TERM Growth. |

Using google to check on stocks and their trends in the past 2 months is probably your best bet depending on how soon you need to "purchase" these stocks. |

yes I have tried that, still was hoping someone has some ideas for a stock, since I personally am not one to look up stocks other then the ones that I know or well known companies. |

short-term growth of stocks is associated with releases of new products/information/etc. and everybody jumping on a bandwagon, thinking that everybody else would jump on the same bandwagon. In part, that's how stocks work.
Think something like Apple bringing iPhone to Canada in the next couple of months...
Though then again there's a lot of other noise involved in the short-term, and it's difficult to fluctuate the stock of a large company. You might bet on some profit, but it wouldn't be the "most growth".
Some tiny pharmaceutical startup that no one knows about, but that gets a patent for a new drug, will likely see explosive growth. Or absolutely none. Obviously the largest growth is associated with the most risk. |

check up on http://patents.ic.gc.ca/cipo/cpd/en/search/advanced.html
625 patents granted this year. You could search by filing date instead, and probably find stuff that should be approved in the next 2 months.
I don't actually know of any such companies by name. I just suspect that this is one of the methods that could influence a decision when it comes to stocks. |

Can you short sell? YHOO will be falling tomorrow since the buy-out fell through; MSFT should take a bit of a hit too. |

My bet would be on Apple since they're coming out with the 3G iphone pretty soon, and the iphone is also coming to Canada. If you want Canadian companies, try Rogers (RCI.A), they'll benefit from the deal. Check out the trends for the past month, the stock has been climbing like crazy. You might also want some diversity in what you invest, so I'd recommend some medium sized uranium mining company. Check THIS out. =). |
