So... yeah, something is up with my sisters keyboard. A bunch of the keys are just wrong. For example, the apostrophe/quote key produces ? and ? respectively, while the tilde key (the upper left one) produces / and \ respectively. In order to get a question mark I have to use shift + 6. I have no clue what is going on, so a little help would be appreciated. I checked into my keyboard options in the Control Panel, and got nowhere (Everything was set to English (Canada), which is what all my other computers are set to). Any ideas?

try opening the on-screen keyboard to check if it's a problem with the keyboard's hardware or something else

most likely it could be a virus Neutral

try some virus scan? (altho it didnt pick it up when you were infected, so it probably wont pick it up again), so try using hijackthis and see if there is anything weird running.

Could it possibly be that the configuration of the keys to the keyboard buttons have been reconfigured by someone?

Or possibly that the Canada English language has bugged, or it is a virus.

I'm pretty sure, the on-screen keyboard works independently of the keyboard. Regardless of what is going on with your keyboard, the on-screen keyboard will work, so that can't really tell anything about the problem.

Although I don't know much about hardware, 2 important questions would be: does that keyboard work on other computers? and do other keyboards work on that computer?

well the theory is that if the on-screen keyboard works fine then the problem is the keyboard, if it doesn't then the keyboard isn't to blame

1. Write a virus to change a layout of a couple of keys
2. ???
3. Profit!

I'm not going to go searching for Viruses Tony.

Parents wouldn't appreciate it. Plus, who knows. I know of viruses that constantly open and close the CD Drive. Anything is possible.

You're going to need an old priest and a young priest.

Be sure to check any config.sys entries re;
DEVICE and COUNTY
and autoexec.bat entries re;
CHCP, NLSFUNC, MODE or KEYB

Then ensure Windows code page settings seem sane as well.

After that, try Control panel settings and tweak it to US English, then after reboot and testing, back to English CA.

Dunno, may help may not.

Cheers
