We're starting to get quite a community going, I mean, we've got /blog, DWITE, the newly recreated comic site (hopefully), and the forums themselves. I think a nice splash/home page with a news box, and some other stuff (possibly leading to user projects) would be an awesome way to organize and unify CompSci.ca. What does everyone else think?

I generally dislike spash pages... but done well this could work.

I entirely agree with you Clayton. The top menu bar just isn't cutting it anymore. On a side note. I also vote for a users projects forum. So people can recruit, discuss and release large projects.

we've actually got a couple of more projects in the making to add to this Wink

Dan and I have been thinking about this for a bit. A "Slash" page is a bad term to describe this though... I've had a few ideas, possibly similar with what Clayton had in mind.. Though I want to find someone to help put together an impressive design. Which might or might not have to include a redesign of all the other community parts.

I'd rather put some work into this and have an impressive result, rather than have the MX portal that we used to have (anyone remember that?), and have it be a horrible failure where go out of their way to skip over it.

Alright, fair enough, "Splash" isn't exactly the best word. More like a portal linking to everything and anything of interest.

I'm interested in these other projects...?

It's kind of under wraps. It's going to be big though.

@Clayton - maybe not even a portal. I'm really thinking more along the lines of a central syndication of all the community parts. Maybe a short box for global announcements, but it should try hard to stay away from being a yet another place to post content.

I like the global announcements idea, one site to check for new posts on compsci, new blogs on /blog, new comic release, etc. This seems like a good idea.

Also now Tony has gone and made me curious about these "projects".
