I haven't actually searched around a lot but I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge on how to build an mp3 player or iPod (well something like that, meaning a portable music player) with parts from old players. Just if anyone has any knowledge whatsoever or knows any decent sites that relate to this. Thanks. |

Like a custom one? It would be very complicated; you would really have to know your shit. Even then it might not really be worth it. But Make does have an mp3 player kit which may interest you: http://www.makezine.com/daisy/ |

I'm worried that I don't know enough lol that's why I'm hoping you guys know some sites or something. I just want to make one that works, I am not worried about special features or anything yet. I've been wanting to do it for a while but also it'll go along with some project for school.
Basically I've got some parts from old mp3 players and I want to put them together and obviously buy some new stuff and see how it goes. |

Sure, but you can't exactly grab an LCD from an old RCA player and then maybe a 20gig iPod hard drive or something and a bunch of ICs. These are very specialized components that probably won't work together. How much do you know about... any of this? What class are you talking about? |

I think salvaging old parts is more expensive than just getting an old ipod from ebay or something :S However if you're doing it for fun, then I think there are websites that show you how to do it (ie: how to repair an ipod and the likes.) |
