Spent a few days making the battle engine for a Final Fantasy look alike. It will eventually be a longer game with towns ect. but right now it's a battle engine. It has the same screen dimensions as a GBA just in case I feel like learning C with the project of porting this to the GBA.
The controls are quite simple, right and left to change menus, up and down to move the cursor, enter to choose an attack. Items have not been implemented (as there isn't an inventory) but I plan to do that after creating an overworld (and adding battle animations). The exp and gold you "get" if you win are simply Rand.Int output and serve no purpose yet.
Other notes:
The name you enter at the beginning can be multiple words.
The enemy is actually a summon from one of the earlier FF games.
Your character is from Fire Emblem, and has complete battle animation sprites for later (not included in the attachment because that'd take up useless space)
You can replace "bg-2.bmp" with your own background, but the fade effects at the end (win or lose) will still use the old one.
If you feel like making faded backgrounds for a replacement, I used PhotoImpression 4 to "lower brightness then save as" 10 times (bg2-1.bmp is just the original, so bg2.bmp = bg2-1.bmp)
Any comments would be great! As well as ideas for storyline, features, ect.

That's pretty awesome. The interface is nice. All you have to do is make a better name entry and a help menu or something. I didn't know which buttons did what except the arrow keys.
