For those of you who use Athlon 64's, do you use C'n'Q? I currently have 2 Athlon 64 configurations, the one is an Athlon 64 3200+ with an Asus A8V Deluxe (K8T800 Pro chipset) and an Athlon 64 3800+ with a DFI NF4-Sli Infinity which obviously uses the NF4-Sli chipset.

I originally ran the 3200+ and A8V, C'n'Q worked fine. Then I got the new board, and ran the 3200+ and DFI, C'n'Q wouldn't work. Then I got the 3800+ which I put on the DFI and C'n'Q wouldn't work, when I rebuilt the old configuration with a new case, C'n'Q works fine.

I've done a little research on this, and found that a lot of times when people try to enable C'n'Q with NF4 boards, it works if they do it immediately after formatting and installing Windows XP, but after they start to install drivers and software, it ceases to work.

I've tried updating the CPU driver and using old ones. It's said that I have to enable P&P OS in the bios, but I don't have that option. Obviously there's an option to enable/disable C'n'Q in the bios so I have it set as "automatic" because my only other option is "disable". I've set the power settings to "Minimal Power Management", but it just will not clock down.

Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it? I really do not want to format my computer, because I have a lot of stuff installed that I do not want to reinstall. It's just not worth it.

if i try activating Cool n' Quiet, my computer ceases to boot Confused but i dont mind, i even changed mobos (cuz i didnt like chaintech) and it didnt improve the situation. lol, reformatting will do absolutely nothing about that problem, you might try flashing your BIOS, thats about all you could do, short of buying a new processor. all situations would allow you to keep your current files nice and safe on your harddrive,. no formatting needed Smile

I don't really think that it's a problem with the CPU, because the 3200+ works on the Asus board, but not the DFI. I believe that there may be a software conflict, and that's why their C'n'Q ceased to work. Maybe I need a format anyways. It's been almost a year with Windows XP and haven't done it and now it's starting to act up. I'd be a Linux man but I play too many games. I hate messing around with emulators just to play some videogames.

That's kind of funny. You try two boards and C'n'Q doesn't work. I try two different processors, and C'n'Q doesn't work.

dude ... formatting will do nothing for the cool n' quiet issue, just so you know. if you have a big enough harddrive, dual boot, you get the best of both worlds Smile i would dual boot, but i admittadely hate windows

could just be the board.. when i worked at ati, one of the engineers told me to only trust 2 mobo brands: intel, and asus.
