Actually when it did happne, I wanted to headbutt Zidane -.- he was about to make France lose (I still think if he was in the shoot outs he could have won them the cup, damn that 1 shot). Anyhow, after that interview- it seems that Zidane should have hit that guy harder Razz

Umm a friend of mine sent me that pic xd funny

where is the sportsmanship in matterazi calling zidane's mother/sister a wh0re?

A valid point. That wasn't a nice thing to do, but it was a pretty brialliant tactic. It could easily be argued that Materazzi won the Italians the cup.

Psychology in sport is very important. And the psychology of pissing the opposing team off is often quite fun. I do delight in the times I've got cards to opposing players in my own soccer games.

if you do the same to me, i'd do more than simply headbutt you.

Really? To paraphrase a Frasier episode, "We live in a civilized world. We don't settle our differences with brawling no matter who you are."

Zidane was an idiot to do that, especially because of the situation. But even if it were an ordinary situation, meeting someone on the street; would you seriously attack someone who called your mother/sister a wh*re? Sticks and stones...

Then it could also be argued that the Italians won the cup by being cheap. What you do to win...

Sure, it wasn't the best course of action he could have taken.
That said, "Materazzi was an ass to do that".

Well, Materazzi also got the equalizing goal. He also gave them the penalty, but from the replay's it looked like he withdrew from the tackle at the last second and barely touched the French player. Shouldn't have been a penalty. That was "fixed" by another incident later where France probably should have gotten a penalty but didn't.

Yes, but a tactful ass.

too true cervantes. But isn't this typical? Zidane the well known player commits an offense towards the sport of soccer. Three days later, with words, the world is in Zidane's favor. This proves that history takes the side of the winner (as zidane won the golden ball and is the more famous player)

Umm... wouldn't you say the winner in all this is Italy? Maybe you disagree, but the world cup seems more important than the golden ball to me.

Also, I'm not sure about "the world", but ever since the very moment I saw that when watching the game, I have kept the same opinion. Something like: "I can understand why he did that, but it sucks that it probably lost them the cup."

First of all, thanks Cervantes and Amailer for sharing those, they made my day Very Happy. Probabily even more because i watched it happen.

But what you guys have to look at is, besides that guy called zidanes female family wh0res (where im right with Andy), but is that headbut. Yes he's a professional soccer player, but frig man, he hit him square in the solarplex with perfect timing!!!!

He has had to of done this before, i mean, to get such a perfect headbut and at the world cup finals? He has had to of practiced that.... fricken awesome.

Practice? Running into someone with your head down isn't all that difficult.

Besides, that could have turned out far worse than it did, for both of them. It's entirely possible that getting a blow to the chest at just the wrong instant, related to the heartbeat, can be fatal.

Good grief Cervantes! I really hope that you don't get into too many fights on your way to stardom - because you apparently are quite oblivious to certain relations of bodily dynamic and physical laws...Very Happy. Zidane was able to pull off such a picture perfect head-butt because he's a professional soccer player, and I would expect he spent many hours practising headers - such as the infamous ones he pulled off at the '98 World Cup.
Had he simply '[ran] into someone', chances are he'd have hurt himself as much as he'd have hurt the other person. Your neck isn't exaclty the strongest part of your body - unless you have well built up neck muscles as he does. What Zidane did was lower his chin and ram into Matarazzio, while at the same time tightening his abdominal muscles. He the what!? Abdoninals? Pourquoi?
Quite simply, by hardening the core of his body, he essentially was very much like that lamp post that you posted earlier. Just, in this case, that lamp-post had some of its own kinetic energy.
Had Zidane been less versed in the ways of head-butting, he'd likely have directed his energy in a less fruitful manner - perhaps slamming his head down into Matarazzio's chest instead of thrusting it in. This would have put far more stress on his neck, thus resulting in personal injury.
I'd go into the dynamics of his foot placement too, but I have to go do some other stuff now Very Happy. In brief, Cervantes, the Liverpool Kiss really does take a long time to perfect!

I'm with Cervantes. Sure, the neck thing, but I doubt Zidane spent his younger years studying the ancient art of Martial Headbutting under the tutelage of Jacques Cousteau and working in a French Fry restaurant.

Head down, into the other guy; momentum = +good.

I'm more concerned about Materazzi here. What's the thought process? "Ah crap, Zidane's forehead coming in fast! Take evasive-- hey, I wonder what shaving cream he uses?" *knocked down*
I really don't think Zidane was moving that fast.

Hmm... Delos has a point. I was actually quite surprised that Materazzi was knocked down by that headbutt. That explains it quite well. Smile

Anyway, where are you getting this "running head first into Materazzi" from? As I recall, he simply took a few well placed steps forward.

Professional soccer players are crybabies and fakers. That is precisely why soccer is so slow to catch on in North America. We're all about violence and hard-hitting sports. Hence, Zidane's head-butt accomplished more for soccer in North America than any other soccer event in the past 50 years.

Thank you for making North Americans to look like a bunch of idiots...
