Has anybody bothered with their (and Best Buy's) Get it for less. Guaranteedâ„¢? If it works it would seem like having your own Tigerdirect.ca just down the street. Which makes me wonder about their "The advertised item must be sold through an authorized dealer..." condition.
I'm thinking of getting a graphics tablet, and as long as "Mostly Digital" is an authorized dealer, I can save a good $70 from Future Shop's retail price (Mostly Digital sells it for $99 CAD), and ~$20 from Tigerdirect.ca after taxes and shipping.
But since we've overcome the hassles of geographical distance, does anyone know fo a place in Canada that will sell for less than $99? I'm mainly looking for a Graphire4 4x5 but if you can find a 6x8 or even a better model for a great price, I won't get mad
C'mon, CompSci.ca, let's stick it to The Manâ„¢! |

In practice most retail stores are very picky about how their price matching policies are applied. They do this mostly to protect themselves from other retailers.
Imagine you're Best Buy. You know Future Shop has shelves full of a particular 17" LCD monitor. So, to hurt Future Shop you announce that you're selling the same thing for $100, and simply don't stock it. That way, no one can actually take you up on the offer, but they can go to Future Shop and demand a price match.
This is (mostly) why Future Shop will insist on only price matching if another store has the product in question in stock. |

To wit, Future Shop and Best Buy are owned by the same people... . |

I understand that much. It's just things like Future Shop selling the exact same product as other stores for something like $30 more (or less, but with a wonderfully annoying $30 mail in rebate!) that bugs me. |

I have seen peoleop take advaget of such deals befor but it was allways with a qoute form a local store. Not shure if they whould acpect one from an online store. Worth a try tho.
Speaking of riping of futtuer shop and best buy. If you rember some time back mcdonals had the moplopy game and with it on every item you got a $2 or $1 copond for best buy. They could not be used together or more then one with each vists. Making them see quite usless. Well, intill i looked closer and found out you could use them online and there was no minumn amount you had to spend. Also that best buy had free shiping during the month in question.
So i got about 100 coponds from firends, faimly, any one. lots of peoleop where going to mcdonals for the monplay scam....i mean game....and they had no use for $1 off best buy that whould not add up.
Then i when to the best buy web site and found every item that cost $1 or $2 and less and i bougth out there complet stock of all of them by loging in, using the copond, buying it for free, loging out, repate.
Affter spending like 1 week doing this i ran out of coponds and the promo ended. But i did recive tones and tones and tones of small parts form best buy for free. Everything from CRT screen cleaing cloths, to AV conectionrs to things i did not even know what where. Each was shiped in it's own rather over sized box.
I still have a closet full to the top with unopened mail from best buy. And the post office now thinks i am crazy. Fun going there and picking up 15 boxs at a time. |

Mostly Digital is an actual brick and mortar store, just not close enough to be worth driving to (London, from Windsor). Future Shop's condition (one of them, anyway) was that the store be an authorized dealer located in Canada. So it might actually work for stores that are completely online, as lon as the "authorized dealer" part checks out. |

Don't know how much this helps, but I've taken advantage of Future Shop's gurantee.
About a year ago, I bought a game (Deus Ex: Invisible War, I believe) from FS for $30. Then I saw it being sold for $20 at Game Shack (in the Atrium at Yonge/Dundas).
I believe FS requires you to show them the product being advertised for less, but Game Shack does not have any advertising (AFAIK). So I bought the game, showed the receipt to FS, at which point they issued me 110% of the difference. Then I returned the GS bought one.
(I could've just returned the FS one and kept the GS one, but the FS one came in a case... plus I had a lot of time on my hands it seems...) |
